Where do you go from here?
So where do you go from here? Technology is constantly changing-expanding
the realm of possibilities. But we'll all go down this path together. The
innovators of today will provide the templates for the distance education of
tomorrow. As the number of Internet users grows, faster and better methods
of distance education will develop with them. Today's innovators will lay
the groundwork for the virtual classroom of the future. Faster computers,
better modems, and more advanced browsers will allow communication to
flourish. Satellite, television, and video will make it seem as if you are
there. No longer will you be bound by the four walls of a school. The world is your
schoolhouse for whatever it is that you want to learn. Naturally, things
like swimming and horseback riding cannot be taught without a pool or a
horse, but some basic instruction still can be given at a distance.
Swimmers can now cross the Channel easily, and the cowboys won't only be
found in the west.
It is time to decide where you fit in to the world of distance education.
A Word From Two Innovators
"...we need to look not at directly what technology does in terms of delivering education, but how it's going to change the real process...the real question is, we're probably not saving money in the short term, but we're really changing a lot of the administrative functions..."
 |
...how can I really change not an individual class but an overall enterprise is something that has to be much more seriously addressed and the cost of doing that...
|
 |
"...it's taking what I know or we know exists out there and how it's been used in other on-line courses and really shaping or applying the course material to those technologies, rather than taking the technology and slapping the content into those technologies..."
Here's another quote.
 |
...really think about what is it that we're trying to achieve with this particular course, what is it that we want our students to walk away with, what information, what knowledge, what skills, and then look at what technologies exist that can actually help to actually deliver that...
