Introduction
Possessing
the ability to negotiate effectively is vital to successful Web
design. In a 2001 lecture to University of Washington graduate students
titled “A Day in the Life of a Usability Engineer,” Chris Hale,
Intel’s Manager for Usability Engineering, cautioned his audience
that organizational resistance could be one of the biggest barriers
designers face when promoting usability.
Hale
suggested the students remember three key terms for organizational
“survival”:
- Negotiations
- Tradeoffs
- Restraints
