Introduction

The word "management" has a number of possible meanings. These include administration, direction, guidance, control and handling. In "Managing the Corporate Intranet," it also means the ability to tame, harness and develop a resource. When used successfully, it is the art of conducting actors and events to accomplish a particular goal or task (Miller, Roehr, Bernard, 1998).

An intranet site is not a "fire and forget" enterprise. Management begins with the planning of the intranet site and continues to implementation and maintenance. These processes include coordinating the roles and responsibilities of the people involved, developing common standards, setting appropriate goals and objectives, and defining the maintenance practices that will be used. In this section, we will discuss the maintenance of an intranet, it’s importance, and some different methods to ensure that your intranet site will be able to evolve as its function changes in addition to performing as initially planned.
