Elements of Information Design

Barbara McKinstry - "Converting A Linear Document For The Web" - After majoring in French Literature and Music, and working in Technical Support, I find TC a great mix of writing, technology, and project management. I currently work as a Technical Writer at Qpass, a company that enables digital, mobile, and broadband commerce. The Information Design class at UW has inspired more creativity in my work, and solidified fundamental concepts of TC.

Taryn Gerhardt - "Write Well On The Web" - My focus in studying TC has been to bring elements of TC to my work in non-profit organizations. I work as the communications director for an 8,000-member labor union for professionals in Washington state, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, Local 17. I also use my communications skills in my volunteer actvities in organizations that work with people with disabilities and for outdoor recreation.

Lily Sun - "Web Design And Globalization" - I came to the States two years ago from China. I love the green and rainy Seattle. With a Bachelor's in English and a Master's in Translation, I was lucky enough to find my first job as software translator and localizer with RXL Pulitzer a year ago. Now I am a web localization manager at OpenWorld Translations, a translation and localization company. Working with hard-to-use and hard-to-translate interfaces and manuals, I had this urge for more knowledge in good communication skills. No surprise, the Technical Communications program was what I was looking for. I just started and I am already thrilled by how good it makes me feel in my career and my personal life!

Eydie Detera -"Evolution Of Multimedia" - work at the University of Washington (UW) as a program coordinator with the Office of Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer. The office handles new inventions in biotech, engineering and software at UW. But before this, I coordinated the UW English department's Interdisciplinary Writing Program; and was a curator, writer and researcher at the Wing Luke Asian Museum In Seattle's Chinatown/International District. My short life has taken some interesting turns, and coming to Technical Communications has been a revelation for me because it has opened a world to continue writing and learning. I'm excited to be part of this program!
